Spend enjoyable days on the lake or by the beach
Experiences that bring harmony to your life
You will find information material for tourists at Osby municipality's contact centre, Västra Storgatan 35. Here you can get some of the most common tourist brochures. Opening hours: Monday - Thursday 08:00-16.30 and Friday 08.00-16.00. If our visitor information counsellor is present it will be possible to get personal service. You can also phone or email us. The contact details are to be found at the end of this page.
Information material is also available at the shop of the toy museum Lekoseum at Briogatan 1 during the opening hours of the shop.
Welcome to the well-known and appreciated Lekoseum, which is located in the centre of Osby. You will find it easily, no matter if you are coming by car or by train. The toy museum is in easy reach from the railway station.
Lekoseum offers a lot of activities for children - delighting both big and small. And great toys of course - not only to play with but also to recall old times.
In the open air museum there’s a rare volcanic rock in the center - the world famous black diabase. In the 90 m deep and 900 m long, water-filled quarry there’s the possibility to rent a raft and drift along the canyonlike walls.
Besides the impressive old cranes and work tools you’ll also find artwork made of diabase by well-known artists. The Black Mountains offers a fantastic experience for both big and small.
In 2018, a new cultural centre opened, called Sliperiet Gylsboda. The unique, carefully renovated building from the early 20th century has its origin in the glory days of the local diabase quarrying. Here you will experience different kinds of art and craft. Photographs show the diabase quarrying and tools, conserved from the past, are displayed.
You will also find a fascinating exhibition with beautiful minerals and fossils.
Are you looking for a whopper pike? Look no further. Here in Osby the highly experienced fishing guide Mikael Ekstrand, who caught his first pike at the age of seven, will guide you to exclusive and largely unknown forest lakes with very low fishing pressure. His speciality is kayak fishing for pike. Kayak fishing opens up undreamt-of possibilities to reach not accessible shallow coves in the wilderness. Here you will multiply the chance to catch a really big pike, making your fishing experience unforgettable. Of course you can also fish in a group from an ordinary boat. Mikael knows the promising places for a unique fishing experience.
You make use of the right of public access when you go for a walk in the forest, paddle a kayak, go climbing or just sit on a rock and think. Usually it is completely natural for us. In order for everyone to enjoy nature, we need to take care of nature and wildlife and show consideration for landowners and others who are outdoors. We can sum this up with the phrase ”Don’t disturb – don’t destroy”.
The African swine fever is spreading across Europe. It is not dangerous to humans, but a deadly threat to millions of domestic pigs and wild boars. Left over food, like sausage or ham, currently poses the greatest risk to introduce this desease to Sweden. The virus is very resistant and can be infectious for 6 month, in frozen meat for several years. Please don't leave left over food where pigs and boars can eat it. Dispose of this kind of waste in sealed containers. Please clean clothes and shoes if you could have been in contact with pigs or boars outside Sweden, e.g. as a hunter, forester or farmer.
