Walk the site of the black gold
This unique walking loop will give you a lot of memorable experiences - all concentrated in only 8 km! The varied walking trail leads you to several historical sites, for example an open diabase quarry which is one of the longest in the world. It is almost 100 m deep, has vertical rock faces and is now partially filled with water.
The quarry serves today as a unique open air museum. It also offers you a wealth of great artworks, created from the world-famous black diabase. From here this unique volcanic rock is still exported worldwide.
The trail leads through the open air museum and the entrance fee is 50 kr during the opening hours (summer season 2019, Tuesday - Sunday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.) During the remaining hours the entrance is free. In this case it is appropriate to begin from here before 11 a.m. or to take the walk on a Monday.
The walking loop also runs along the lake Hjärtasjön – and you will have a beautiful lake view during your walk. Directly by the lakeside you will find many cosy rest areas, some of them suitable for grilling. In addition, there is a nice bathing area with jetties and a playground for your little ones. Furthermore, the walking trail will lead you to 200 years old Swedish cottages, painted in typical Swedish paint named “falu red”.
If you are walking as a family with children, you can easily adapt your trip by only going around the small lake Hjärtasjön. Combine walking, bathing and playtime for a great outdoor family day!
